I read a good article in the plain dealer the other day that outlined office habits and how they can be extremely unhealthy for us. I put together a similar list discussing signs of an Obesogenic workplace. On the contrary, I’m also going to discuss some things you can do to limit obesity, obesity habits, and/or habitats. I know none of us want to end up like this guy.

Signs of an obesogenic workplace

Steps you can take to stay slim

  • You and your co-workers regularly bring in goodies.
  • Lots of eating out or catered meals with few healthy food options
  • Vending Machines full of junk food
  • No one takes the stairs
  • Office lacks on-site fitness area or health club discounts.
  • No cafeteria or cafeteria offers; only fast foods.
  • Job entails sitting all day
  • High Stress
  • No need to walk anywhere
  • Pack your lunch
  • Stock desk with healthy snacks
  • Resist the candy dish
  • Use your lunch hour for exercise
  • Find healthy restaurants and gather their menus
  • Choose low-calorie snacks in vending machines: pretzels, granola, HEALTHY!
  • When stressed, chew gum instead of snacking on food
  • Drink plenty of water – at least 3 quarts a day
  • Take the stairs / Park further away
  • If you bring snacks to share, make them healthy!

If the first motivational picture didn’t apply to you, then ladies, please take a look at this. You don’t want to look up in the mirror and see that, do you? haha! I’m mainly posting this because it’s cheaper and easier to be unhealthy. The thing is, is that if you start to maintain a healthier life style, you become happier and a lot more energetic. Personally, I hit the college slump. I graduated high school, stopped competing in sports so often, but maintained my habit of destroying any sort of food that happened to land in front of me. That is, until lately. I’ve been going to the gym again, eating subway instead of McDonald’s breakfast, taking vitamins, and concentrating on small aspects of my life that make me a healthier and a happier person. It’s only been a few months, but I wake up in the morning happy and enjoy when my muscles are sore! Weird how things work! Thankfully I’m only 21, and if I lived the last 3 years of my life exactly how I did, if I was 30, I’d be 30 pounds heavier. I found an awesome site that compares a lot of fast foods. It’s pretty nasty. I now understand why they make certain restaurants put their Nutrition Facts on every single cheeseburger! I hope this post comes in as a health reminder, a realization, or maybe even some motivation. It’s not about being overweight, it’s about being happy, healthy, and aware of your surroundings.
