Microsoft Outlook 2003 IconI recently ran into a problem at work, where a user could not open any attachments inside his inbox. He was using Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, and upon double clicking the attachment, nothing would happen. Every attachment that he tried to open, failed. I Couldn’t even save the attachment to the computer and then re-open it. Nothing happened.

I even went as far as re-installing Outlook, Clearing the Registry as Microsoft pointed out I should do. Still nothing seemed to work, and I still couldn’t open any attachments.

This problem was so annoying, yet I knew it had to be something so simple. One of those stuck on the end of your tongue problems. I finally ran into a solution when I noticed ‘Google Desktop Search Outlook Add-in’ was checked. I unchecked this and then I was able to view and download attachments again.
Google Desktop Logo
Step by Step proces
1. Open Outlook
2. Click Tools -> Options
3. Click the Others Tab, and then the Advanced Button
4. Click Add-In Manager, then uncheck the Google Desktop Search Outlook Add-In option.
5. Click OK, and attempt to download that attachment.

I’m posting this, mainly because it took me hours of research and testing to figure out such a simple problem. I’m not really sure if many people have this problem, or if there is another solution, but I hope this post helps someone out. As of right now, it seems that Outlook 2003 and Google Desktop users are going to have to choose 1, another, or no attachments.
